# X_B to STL converter.

To turn a binary Parasolid .x_b file into an STL, drop it below, pick Standard or Fine, and download the .stl, free and with no account. There is no need to make a STEP first. The mesh is made in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer unless you choose to send it to us, and it is checked against the solid before you can download it. Not every file converts, and the page says why when one does not.

Your file never leaves your computer unless you choose to send it to us: the conversion runs in your browser.

## How to convert X_B to STL

- Drop the files. Drop one .x_b file or a whole batch on the box above, or choose them from your computer.
- Pick a resolution. The menu starts on Standard (0.05 mm). Fine (0.01 mm) is there too.
- Press Convert. With several files, the button says Convert all, and each file gets its own result.
- Download the STL. One file at a time, or all of them as one zip.
Table: X_B to STL at a glance

| X_B to STL | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| Reads | Binary Parasolid files (.x_b), parts and assemblies, from Parasolid 12 on. |
| Writes | Binary STL, in millimetres, at Standard (0.05 mm, 5 degrees) or Fine (0.01 mm, 1 degree) resolution. |
| Keeps | The shape, within the tolerance you pick, and every part of an assembly that can be rebuilt exactly, in place. |
| Drops | True curves, which become flat triangles, plus the assembly tree, part names and colours. |
| Checks | The mesh's volume and bounding box, against the solid. Not that the mesh is closed. |
| Costs | Free, with no account and no limit on how many files you convert. |

## Straight to a mesh

You do not have to make a STEP first. The converter rebuilds the solid from your X_B and meshes it directly, so one drop gets you the STL. Going through STEP gets you to the same place: on our bracket, the STL from the X_B and the STL from a STEP of the same part both came to 14,288 triangles at Standard and 280,832 at Fine.

## What that mesh is good for

3D printing, a mesh viewer, or anything else that asks for STL. It is a poor file to send a machine shop or a laser cutter, because a hole is now a ring of flat facets and they need the true circle. For them, send a STEP made from the X_B.

## Many files at once

Binary Parasolid often arrives as a folder of parts. Drop them all together: each one is converted and checked on its own, one failing does not stop the others, and the results can be downloaded as one zip. For an assembly in a single file, every part it can rebuild goes into one STL, in place, with no way to tell the parts apart afterwards.

## How the mesh is checked

The new STL is read back and measured. Its volume may differ from the solid's only by the surface area times the tolerance, 0.05 mm at Standard and 0.01 mm at Fine, and its bounding box must fit within that tolerance. Nothing else is measured, so this does not prove the mesh is closed, and a small missing face can pass.

## A measured example

We tested this on a 120 x 80 x 30 mm bracket modelled in SOLIDWORKS 2024 (a plate with a filleted, chamfered boss and five holes). On a desktop PC its 12 KB X_B became a 698 KB STL in 0.7 seconds at Standard, and a 13.4 MB STL in 10 seconds at Fine. The check line at Standard read: "Verified: the STL was read back. Its mesh agrees with the solid on volume to 0.01% and size exactly, at Standard resolution (0.05 mm, 5°)." Measured on 5 November 2026. A file this simple is the easy case, not the typical one.

Parasolid files fail more often here than any other format. When an X_T will not convert says why, and what to do instead.

## Questions

Q: Do I need to convert X_B to STEP first?
A: No. The converter meshes the solid it rebuilt from your X_B directly. A STEP is only worth making if someone else also needs the exact part.

Q: Can I convert many X_B files at once?
A: Yes. Drop them together and each is converted and checked on its own. There is no limit on how many, and the results can be downloaded as one zip.

Q: Will it print without repair?
A: Often, but the check cannot promise that: it measures volume and size only, and does not prove the mesh is closed. Your slicer's mesh check will tell you.

## Every conversion

Table: Every conversion the converter does

| From | To STEP | To IGES | To STL |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| SLDPRT | SLDPRT to STEP | SLDPRT to IGES | SLDPRT to STL |
| X_T | X_T to STEP | X_T to IGES | X_T to STL |
| X_B | X_B to STEP | X_B to IGES | X_B to STL |
| STEP (.stp) | Already STEP | STEP to IGES | STEP to STL |
| IGES (.igs) | IGES to STEP | Already IGES | IGES to STL |
| STL | STL to STEP | STL to IGES | Already STL |

## Quoting laser-cut parts from files like these?

Lasertally is Windows software for fabrication shops. It opens STEP, IGES, DXF and NC1 files, measures the pierces, cut length and bends off the geometry, and prices the part on your own rate card.
